PalmCreek Estates, an affordable maintenance-free
lifestyle for both seasonal and permanent residents. Not just a
neighborhood
..quality life!
The city of Okeechobee is located on the northern
tip of lake Okeechobee, the second largest fresh water lake within
the borders of the continental United States, covering almost 800
square miles. In addition to the big lake, there are rivers, creeks,
and you are only minutes from the ocean.
Okeechobee is a typical Florida small town community.
Agriculture plays an important role in the economics of the area
as well as seasonal tourism. Yet compared with other like sized
Florida cities, it has more restaurants, hotel rooms and other retail
and service type industries. Among them you will find Wal-mart,
K-mart, Scotty's, as well as an assortment of home grown retail
facilities. In addition to a large number of locally owned and operated
restaurants, you will also find such nationally recognized names
such as McDonalds', Shoney's, Taco Bell, etc. There are over 40,000
full time residents in the county, increasing to an average of almost
60,000 in the peak winter months. 16 percent of the county is over
65 years of age.
The area climate is semi-tropical with moderate
temperatures averaging in the 80's in the summer and 70's in the
winter. Temperatures seldom fall below 45 degrees at their lowest.
This means outdoor recreation such as fishing and golf are year
round activities.
Although cattle and dairy farming have been the
dominant industry for some time, there is less emphasis in those
areas now than in the past. Tourism has now become the primary industry
in the county and the governing authorities have emphasized the
allure of the lake as a spring board to increased retail, service
and manufacturing.
With its central location in south Florida, Okeechobee
has excellent access and proximity to many important cities and
population centers and their attractions. Within a 100 mile radius
you can go shopping on world famous Worth Avenue in Palm Beach,
tour Sea World, the Disney attractions, and Universal studios in
Orlando, or enjoy the sun and surf of Fort Myers Beach. You are
only a couple of hours away from Tampa to the west or Miami to the
southeast. Okeechobee will remind you of a lifestyle you probably
thought was gone forever. Present day convenience with yesterday's
quaint charm. It's a great place to live!
